Interior Architecture

The Interior Architecture Undergraduate Program is built on the main idea to graduate people equipped with necessary knowledge and skills to design and detail creative and livable interiors suitable considering today's needs for human-space relations and technological developments. Today, the discipline of interior architecture has spread to many different areas which are forming the main fields of interior design. Therefore, Haliç University Interior Architecture Department organizes its undergraduate education in these main fields of development and change. The core of interior architectural education is the design studio. The studio practice aims to create the free perspective required for all kinds of design activities beginning from the first year of the studies. Beyond the design studio, the courses included in the program aim to develop presentation techniques in manual and digital media along with sophisticated structural & detailing & material knowledge. A significant part of our interior architecture program is to ensure students to comprehend digital production tools competently. The lectures are held in studios, lecture halls, model & material workshops. Moreover, the morphological, cultural, historical and cognitive layers of Istanbul are used as physical space.

The Interior Architecture Program is completed in 4 years, and the program accepts students with SAY-2 score type. Candidates who will have a high level of desire to research, open to learning and determined to keep up with the busy schedule are welcomed. While the course contents are heavy, extracurricular activities also have great significance. Workshops, panels, and exhibitions held with different schools support the studio practice which acts as a hub for all design activities.

Graduates who have completed the Department of Interior Architecture will have job opportunities in several fields. Design offices, construction sites, visualization offices, support services and sales of interior design products, exhibition architecture, yacht design, refunctioning projects, are some of the many work areas. There is no compulsory internship in the department, but students are encouraged to apply for internships and participate in workshops and competitions.

Message from the Head of Department

Dear students,

The Department of Interior Architecture founded in 1999, has the core purpose of providing competent graduates who have adopted interdisciplinary works plural by scale, gained critical perspective for the living environments and who appreciate the meanings of transformation of the built environment alongside everyday life to be able to become a real actor in this transformation.

In our department, the emphasis is placed on the content of theoretical and practical knowledge, as the whole education program is constructed upon bringing them together. The main area to bring these two axes together is the studio environment. As a study and a research laboratory, the studio space is considered as the core element that is in dialogue with various disciplines.

Interior Architecture Studio is a place of ??experience far beyond being a space where professional knowledge and skills are introduced. The studio functions as a hub where the production of questions about the space is encouraged, methods of thinking about the speculative potentials of interior design are challenged and new ideas & projects from a critical perspective by all actors are shared. Accordingly, a conceptual, technical and applied curriculum focusing on the fields of interior architecture, art, and design is supported by a rich elective course content. The predominantly manual drawing studies for the first year is followed by a comprehensive curriculum for digital production tools required today.

Thanks to our young and open-minded academic staff, we, as the Department of Interior Architecture academics are following the developments and innovations in both interior design education and profession. In the Department of Interior Architecture of Haliç University, where the educational structure is formed as an intersection with practice, we aim to have our students go through a fertile undergraduate period where they can reveal their unique skills, ideas and discover their design voices and strengths.
